The first article I ever published was a review in Magic Tree Bookstore‘s newsletter. I was eight and the book was Beverly Cleary’s Ramona Forever. While I have contributed to fancier, wider-read
publications since then, this was definitely the start of my writing career.
My mom suggested I send the review to Beverly Cleary. A few weeks later, I got a postcard reading:
Dear Libby,
I was so pleased to read your nice review of my book. Thank you. Your bookstore sounds like an interesting and lovely place.
Beverly Cleary
I keep the card in a frame in my office to remind me of how thrilled I was to see my name in print for the first time.
Of course I will be following you here and in real life. way to go!
Libby,
So excited for you! And I will, of course, be reading Libby Forever. Ramona was a huge a part of my upbringing too!
Good luck,
Vanessa
Dude, Beverly Cleary? That almost made me cry, so cool. Excited about the new space!
As one of the owners of The Magic Tree Bookstore, I have to tell you how much your words have touched our hearts. This is why we do what we do. Good luck in all of your endeavors.
Thank you.
Iris
